INTRO

Mahjong is a tile-based game that originated in China during the Qing dynasty. It is commonly played by four players (with some three-player variations found in South Korea and Japan). The game and its regional variants are widely played throughout Eastern and South-Eastern Asia and have a small following in Western countries. Similar to the Western card game rummy, Mahjong is a game of skill, strategy, and calculation and involves a degree of chance. (WIKI)

Mahjong machine is used to shuffle and stack tiles instead of users themselves before each round of the game. It was first invented by Japan and imported to China. Because of the huge market in China, the mahjong machine industry developed rapidly and formed a huge industrial chain.

Treyo is the industry leader in the fierce competition. In this case, they wanted to design a high-quality upgrade version based on the first generation.

„New“ Structure

Usually, legs are ignored parts during the design process because of their production technique (e.g. extrusion).

In the final concept, legs were integrated into the whole design but not changing its forming process. The whole machine extends optically.

Concept

• Compared with the original machine, the style of the machine is integrated.

• The interface is highlighted by the acrylic strips.

• In the sight of 45 degrees, the lines extend to the top. From this perspective, faces are formed. Details are embodied therein.

• Legs were integrated into the whole style by the designed shape of corner parts. Additionally, the use of wood and leather texture weakens the feeling of the product and makes it more like a piece of furniture.
